Shaping the future of renewables with the next generation of engineers in Calabria
GreenGo at Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria to discuss infrastructure, territory and energy transition
Proud to meet the next generation of engineers in Reggio Calabria and explore together the future of renewables development infrastructure.
GreenGo took part in a seminar at the Università degli Studi “Mediterranea” di Reggio Calabria, within the L9 Engineering Management programme.
The session, attended with great interest by the students, offered a joint perspective on the energy transition, combining managerial vision and technical depth, and discussed the engineering challenges behind renewable-energy projects planned and under construction across Calabria.
The initiative forms part of GreenGo’s broader stakeholder-engagement activities in Calabria — a strategic region for the company, where we are developing 378 MW of wind and solar projects, have already secured authorisation for 227 MW of BESS plants, and are currently building three photovoltaic plants for a total capacity of 17 MW.
Prof. Giuseppe Barbaro, Director of the Ingegneria DICEAM – Università Mediterranea RC Department, welcomed us with great enthusiasm, while Prof. Fabio La Foresta, Coordinator of the Engineering Management programme, highlighted the strong analogies between the lifecycle of civil infrastructures and renewable-energy plants — from territorial integration to the complexity of construction phases.
Giuseppe Mastropieri, CEO of GreenGo, opened the seminar with a management-driven overview of Italy’s renewable-energy landscape, outlining the strategic role of energy infrastructures and the major challenges linked to the expansion of utility-scale solar, wind, and storage.
Cosimo Falvo, Area Manager for Calabria, then provided an applied engineering perspective on how development processes interact with local territories and generate concrete value.
His contribution focused on several key themes:
⦿ direct investments that activate local supply chains, create economic spill-overs, and strengthen cooperation with regional companies
⦿ high-complexity utility-scale projects that raise the technical profile of local professionals through multidisciplinary competencies and higher standards in design, execution, and O&M
⦿ the continuous presence of technical and specialist teams, ensuring operational reliability, stable employment, and long-term know-how retention in the territory
Falvo also offered an academic reflection on the role of engineers as integrators of multidisciplinary knowledge — professionals capable of aligning corporate needs with territorial priorities, and of enabling complex infrastructures that support structured and sustainable local development.
