PV: GreenGO authorises 90 MW agrovoltaic project in Sicily

With the decree of the General Director of the Regional Energy Department no. 131 of 15 February 2022, the sole authorisation measure has been adopted

With the decree of the General Director of the Regional Energy Department no. 131 of 15 February 2022, published in the Official Gazette of the Region of Sicily no. 10 of 11 March 2022, the sole authorisation measure has been adopted, pursuant to and for the purposes of art. 12, paragraph 3 of the Legislative Decree no. 387 /2003, after the positive conclusion of the regional EIA (DA n. 221/gab of 25/10/2021), concerning the 90,5 MW photovoltaic plant, and the related connection structures, to be built in the Municipality of Francofonte (SR) for the part concerning the plant, and in the Municipality of Vizzini (CT) for the part concerning the cable duct, in favor of Green Wave s.r.l. – SPV of the GreenGo group.

We are proud to have reached GreenGo’s first sole authorisation after a complex authorisation procedure that lasted 26 months,” says Fabio Amico, Director of Engineering & Development and Board Member of GreenGo. “To date, GreenGo has started authorisation procedures for sixteen projects with a total capacity of 590 MW, with the aim of adding a further 400 MW during 2022, speeding up the progress of our development pipeline”.

Green Wave srl’s plant, thanks to the use of single-axis tracker technology and the optimal irradiation of south-eastern Sicily, will produce an annual electricity output of 175 GWh, able to meet the annual energy needs of about 65,000 households, and – again on an annual basis – avoid the consumption of 15 million cubic metres of natural gas.

Over the life cycle of the project, the plant will avoid the emission of 2,124,150 tonnes of CO2 (based on ISPRA 2020 data, at current Italian energy mix).

Following publication of the PAUR, the project will be immediately ready to build, having already received the seismic authorisation on 6 April 2022 from the Civil Engineering Department of Syracuse Province.

Furthermore, Green Wave PV project is subject to a co-development agreement signed with a primary european investment fund.

In addition to the hybrid agrivoltaic value, the Green Wave project is characterised by the desire to activate important territorial synergies,” says Gianfilippo Mignogna – Head of Permitting at Greengo. “We have embraced the idea of the Municipality of Francofonte to invest, as part of the environmental compensation scheme, in the development of an agro-energy community through a distributed solar generation system. In this way, we will be able to supply the energy-intensive users of the Francofonte citrus farms with significant socio-economic benefits, thus enabling us to cut electricity bill costs, which amount to 3 GWh per year”.
