Community Energy Map, research published in December 2021 by RSE and Luiss Business School, regarding the state of art of Energy Communities in Italy with a map of the ongoing initiatives.

Amongst case studies there is Biccari Energy Community in Apulia, near Foggia, project in progress with ènostra support, a cooperative RES electricity supplier promoting the sustainability culture and environmental ethic, that has been in charge on the technical side for the feasibility study and energy advisory on the production and consumption forecast.

Biccari municipality guided by Mayor Gianfilippo Mignogna, proposes a new energy development model with solar plants installed on public buildings to encourage the local consumption of renewable energy.

One of the distinctive aspects of this project is that it is fully funded from the municipality budget, including from hydrocarbons extraction’s royalties, with no burden on citizens which will take advantage of the Energy Community.

Gianfilippo Mignogna, Head of Development in GreenGo Srl, states: “We strongly want to activate this pilot project that involves approximately sixty families and that should become operative within June 2022. One of the objectives is to reduce the energy costs that weigh on families and encourage the increasing self-consumption of renewable energy”.

As Giuseppe Mastropieri states: “The Biccari CER project is a replicable model that should be exported to accelerate the energy transition. Gianfilippo Mignogna embrace GreenGo’s vision on the “multi-ESG strategy” to develop renewable plants involving local communities for the social cohesion, distributing economic benefits and promoting energy saving and responsible use of renewable resources”.

GreenGo and its development platform, believes that the energy community could be a “social and environmental link” for utility scale plants to go beyond the mere financial compensation by building an authentic partnership with local communities. “Starting from GreenGo’s know how -states Mignogna- and its distinctive approach to project development combining a high-value industrial proposition and a social and sustainable development plan for interested areas, also by encouraging agrivoltaics and green innovation in farms”.
